The translation practice report was based on the translation of A Poor Man's Supper written by Jim Gulledge,an American writer. The twenty-six-chapter novel tells the story of the love and hatred between the heroine Vance Keller and two men,Josiah Buckland and the real estate tycoon Jagger Hill. The novel is composed by vivid language and imaginative description. It reflects the characters and social life through attractive story plots and detailed environmental descriptions,so that the readers will easily sympathize with the story and the characters. The report focuses on the translation strategies of prepositions of the source text.By analyzing the source text and the target text as well as referring to the literature of the related research about the translation of English preposition, the author summarizes five translation methods of prepositions, including literal translation, collocation translation, conversion, addition and omission. In this translation practice, the strategies of conversion, addition and omission are mainly used,so this paper will focus on the use of these three translation methods in specific cases. This report includes four chapters.Chapter One describes the translation task in terms of its background and significance.Chapter Two is the translation process, including preparation, translation process and proofreading.Firstly, the reference books that may be used were prepared and a glossary was made. Then the general translation principle was established and a detailed translation process was explained. At last, proofreading was conducted.Chapter Three is the case study, which discusses the different strategies and methods in the translation of prepositions so as to make the translation more smooth and fluent, such as conversion, addition and omission. The conversion includes the translation of prepositions into verbs, conjunctions and adjectives.Chapter Four summarizes the translation practice and points out future direction of the translation practice.
