Chinese Translation Of English Prepositions

This report is based on the translation of Gerald Graff's They say/ I say:the Moves that Matter in Academic Writing(Second Edition),an academic writing reference book for native English speakers and English learners.The reference book introduces writing templates and basic skills commonly used in academic writing by the means of generalizing,quoting and explaining what they say,then establishing what I say.The templates and skills are widely used in other fields and provide a special view for writers to contemplate their articles and remain to be a reference book especially for college students,researchers and teachers.In the translation process of the book,I met quite a few difficulties covering a wide range,such as vocabulary,syntactic structures,translation strategies and so on.With the help of my supervisor and relevant material,the difficulties have been well solved.And I have developed interest in the Chinese translation of English prepositions,so I decided to make a rough study on the subject.Compared to the wide usage of verbs in Chinese,Preposition is more commonly used in English,for there is at least one preposition in each English sentence.What's more,English prepositions are used flexibly and have various functions.Therefore,it is quite necessary to study the Chinese of English prepositions.In the report,I classify English preposition into different kinds and study different translation tactics,such as literal translation,word class conversion and omission of English preposition in the translation process.At last,I truly hope my report will exert a little influence to help others when they encounters similar difficulties.
