Under the guidance of the Eugene · Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory, the author used case analysis to study the translation of vocabularies in theE-C translation of The Commentaries of Search and Rescue. In the progress of translating The Commentaries of Search and Rescue, dealing with the vocabularies was the most important principal problem:a large number of terms in maritime areas were involved and many of the common vocabularies in daily life had been given a new meaning in commentary reports.According to Nida's functional equivalence theory, addition omission and conversion were used by the author, which was based on the words' characteristics of concise, professional and familiar words had others meanings in maritime English documents to convey the information of the source text accurately and effectively, and made the source text and the target text equivalent in terms of content and form.It is hoped that could provide proper methods for similar translations between English and Chinese through analysis and summarization of words in The Commentaries of Search and Rescue.
