The translation material is excerpted from the Consumers,Estate Agents and Redress Act 2007 of United Kingdom. It mainly includes the provisions about the functions of National Consumer Council and its territorial committees, and the handling of consumer issues. In the process of translation, the author finds that preposition with specific legal meanings often appears in the source text, which functions as a bridge between sentence elements and constructing sentence meanings.Though preposition is a tiny word in legal English, each one bears a distinctive function in legal English, which should not be neglected in translation. This report takes “in”,“with”,“for the purpose”,“under” and other common prepositions as examples, and adopts three translation skills i.e.addition,conversion and omission to explore the translation of prepositions, for the purpose of providing some references and clues for the translation of other prepositions.
