This report is a case study of E-C translation of a social science book called The Ten Types of Human.Based on the translation task,under the guidance of the German functionalist theory,the author of the report discusses the combination of text type theory of German functionalist theory with hybrid text so as to realize the reproduction of informative,operative and expressive functions.In view of the fact that the original text covers a variety of text types,combined with the text typology of German functionalist theory,the author of the report gives a detailed analysis on how to reproduce informative,operative and expressive functions.Referring to informative text,she adopts specific translation methods,such as amplification,to deal with the translation of terms,positions and organizations in ST;as for the operative text,the author of the report combines the appeal effect of the original author and adopts the translation method of "adaptation" in order to persuade the target readers;as for the expressive text rarely seen in social science texts,the author of the report adopts literal translation to enrich the characters' images and express the attitude and emotion of the original author by analyzing the dialogues,actions and appearances of the characters in ST.
