A Research Report On The Translation Of Family Of Humming Birds

The thesis is based on the practice of translating the science book Family of Humming-birds,the part of introducing hermit.First I read the professional background material about humming-birds,and then read some parallel texts to master the language characteristics of science text.Finally,I took rigorous attitude to finish the translation practice.Hans J.Vermeer is a German translation theorist.He firstly raised the Skopos theory in1978,which was a revolution for translation theory.Regarding skopos theory as the basic theory,the Functionalist Translation tried to liberate the translation from the original text.Instead,they explained translation activities from the perspective of the target language,which attaches much more importance to the contents and function rather than focusing on the form and linguistic dominance.Fidelity,Coherence and Skopos are the three principles of Skopos Theory,which provide the translator with a clear standard that should be followed.The communicative function of the translated texts of popular science can be highly achievedThrough translation practice,I analyze the reasons why so many complex sentences exist in science texts.Of course,I also summarized the skills of the translating science texts.Vermeer's skopos theory that I adopted played a guiding role in the practice of translation.According to Skopos theory,the translators shuold be clear of intention of the translation version,for which the tactics and skill serve.Finally,translators use the proper language to transmi more information and achieve the goal of popularize knowledge.I expounded the translation strategies and theory,which I used in the practice of translating Family of Humming-birds,in the form of examples to improve my translation stardard and conclude some tactics of translating science texts.
