This project report analyses the difficulties and problems encountered in the translation of the excerpt of Tour Guide Presentation of Maoshan Mountain Scenic Spot from the perspectives of words, sentences, and style. With regard to words, the main difficulties lie in those on Taoist culture, names of places, and also four-character structures. When it comes to sentences, the translator discusses the translation of long sentences in detail. In the light of Skopos Theory, the author explores some feasible methods to solve the problems and difficulties.Dictionaries and corpora are used to confirm the translation of words and phrases. For the words that are not recorded, the author mainly refers to parallel texts. As regards four-character structures, the methods that the author adopted are omission, combination and transformation of parts of speech. For long sentences, the translator mainly adopts division and compilation. In order to achieve the reconstruction of the style of the original text in the translation, the author adds demonstratives or adverbs of place, and simulate the scene to make the translation approach the original text in terms of its characteristics, namely oral English and interactivity. After analyzing and concluding the difficulties in the translating process, the author finds that it is feasible to translate tour guide presentations under the guidance of Skopos Theory in the hope of conveying information. The author hopes that this project report can offer some suggestions for the translation of tour guide presentations in the future.
