As one of the three regional cultures in China,Huizhou Culture is extensive and profound.China Huizhou Culture Museum is the sole museum in China dedicated to displaying Huizhou Culture in a comprehensive manner.Possessing a profound cultural heritage,the museum serves as a vital window for exhibiting the economic and cultural development in Huizhou as well as an important resource for cultural exchange.Hence,the translation of this museum commentary is a useful access to conveying cultural information,and could broaden the channels for foreign visitors to gain a full picture of Huizhou and China.In other words,the English version of the museum commentary could serve as not only a boost to deepen foreign visitors' cognition of Huizhou Culture,but a driving force in the spread of Huizhou Culture to the international arena.This report is based on the C-E translation of The Commentary of China Huizhou Culture Museum.In light of the translation practice,the skopos theory is chosen as the theoretical guidance together with translation methods and skills to analyze difficulties encountered in translation.Translation methods such as literal translation,free translation,omission and reconstruction are adopted to deal with the translation of cultural elements in proper nouns,Chinese culture-loaded words,folk adages,and to deal with the translation of sentences and discourse.Being a complex text,the museum commentary is the integration of informative text,expressive text and vocative text.In the translation process,attention should not only be paid to information delivery,for the purpose of being faithful to the accuracy and authenticity of the original text,but also be given to the effect and aim of translation,in order to help foreign visitors understand Chinese culture further.Hence,it is never an easy job to apply flexibly various translation methods and skills.Through the analysis of translation difficulties and corresponding solutions,it is the wish that the project report could provide a reference for the translation of other similar texts in terms of stylistic features and C-E translation methods and skills.
