In recent years, with the rapid popularization of technology products, such as computers and mobile phones, people spend much longer time on TV programs and social software. Therefore,it is difficult for them to read a good book with a calm mind.Under such circumstance,Bai Yansong delivered a speech about reading at the invitation of Harbin Institute of Technology so that the students on campus can understand the importance of reading. In addition, with the deepening of China's opening to the outside world,people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and other countries have become increasingly close, and during the process, foreign students in China play an important role. The author hopes that the simulated interpretation of the speech will help the foreign students in China understand Chinese people's views on reading and enhance their understanding about Chinese culture. The author selected Bai Yansong's speech at Harbin Institute of Technology and put the Interpretive Theory as the theoretical basis of this project to analyze the difficulties in the practice of speech interpreting and put forward feasible suggestions.According to the triangular model of the Interpretive Theory, the interpreter can split the interpreting process into three steps:comprehension of source language, deverbalization and re-expression.Through the mock interpretation of the speech, the author summarized five major interpreting difficulties:redundancy,culture-loaded expressions, colloquial expressions, logical fuzziness and ambiguous expressions. On the basis of the Interpretive Theory, the author found corresponding solutions:simplification, supplementation of information, free translation, integration of information and paraphrasing,in the hope of the findings can provide effective reference for future interpreting practice and interpreters in this field.
