A Study On Interpreting Strategies Of Figures Of Speech In The C-E Consecutive Interpretation From The Perspective Of Interpretive Theory

With China's rising international reputation,press conferences of the“Two Sessions” in March every year has increasingly hit the world headlines recent years.Conference interpreting plays its essential role to promote the exchanges between China and other countries around the world.In order to make the language brief,concise,vivid and forceful,speakers often use a variety of figures of speech to enrich the language,which poses a daunting challenge for interpreting.On the one hand,the interpreter seeks to correctly grasp the connotation behind rhetorical language and accurately convey the serious political content to the audience with the help of effective interpreting strategies and methods.On the other hand,the interpreter needs to ensure that the original style is preserved to the largest extent on condition that no misunderstanding will be caused so as to express China's attitude.Therefore,the significance of the accurate interpreting of rhetoric language becomes self-evident.Therefore,this paper chooses interpreting texts of NPC and CPPCC press conferences from 2017 to 2019 for study based on the Interpretive Theory and combined with the features and difficult points of Chinese figures of speech.The author chooses some representative examples and categorizes common figures of speech in press conferences into two types:syntactical figures of speech and semantic figures of speech.Syntactical figures of speech include Pai Bi,Dui Ou and rhetorical question.Semantic figures of speech contain simile,metaphor,allusion and euphemism.The paper summarizes interpreting strategies of all these figures of speech respectively and proves that the Interpretive Theory is a necessary and an important guidance for interpreting Chinese figures of speech in press conferences.It is hoped that this paper can offer some help to interpreting learners.
