Class observation and evaluation is a normal way of teaching research activity,which is an important means to diagnose teachers' teaching ability and improve the quality of classroom teaching.Class observation and evaluation has played a key role on knowing the basic situation of classroom teaching,diagnosing the problems of classroom teaching,judging the lever of teachers' teaching,learning the advantages of other teachers and promoting the quality of classroom teaching.It has a positive influence on the teachers' professional development,improving teaching process and forming atmosphere of teaching and researching.Based on the survey of class observation and evaluation in some higher vocational college(public)in Jiangxi province,the paper has used the methods of literature analysis,questionnaire survey and interviews.The problems on class observation and evaluation in higher vocational English were sorted and analyzed as follow:(1)The consciousness of class observation and evaluation was weak,including poor awareness and regarding higher vocational English as “ unpopular course”;(2)Organization and management of class observation and evaluation was unscientific,including unclear objective,missing assessment and so on;(3)The effectiveness of classroom teaching evaluation was not enough,including the deviation of evaluation attitude and the lack of pertinence in evaluation.Based on Suhomlinsk's educational thoughts and V.H.Vroom's expectancy theory,the paper has combined the basic requirement and the characteristics of English teaching in higher vocational college to analyse.For the problems found in the investigation,the author aims to improve the quality of class observation and evaluation in higher vocational college.Suggestions are demonstrated as follow:(1)It is suggested to improve cognitive awareness of higher vocational English class observation and evaluation,and to promote professional development of teachers.From the viewpoint of perfunctory attitude of class observation and evaluation,the function of class observation and evaluation activity is strengthened.It is suggested to take a correct attitude of class observation and evaluation,to put forward the system of identification class observation and evaluation and pay attention to the value of class observation and evaluation.Grasping the teaching level and teaching quality of English teachers is to provide advice for assessment of college teachers.(2)It is suggested to improve the system of higher vocational English class observation and evaluation,to make class observation and evaluation organizational system perfection and standardization.It takes the system of class observation and evaluation as breakthrough to solve the problems.From the three aspects: preparation before class,observation in class and evaluation after class,closed-loop process of class observation and evaluation is standardized,which makes the organization and management of class observation and evaluation more normative and standardized.(3)It is advocated in this paper that consultation class observation and evaluation can form good atmosphere of teaching and researching.In order to solve the problems of diagnosis and treatment in higher vocational English classroom teaching,the instructors and the members who join in class observation and the evaluation inquire about the “disease” through the classroom observation and finally apply “medicine” according to disease,and put forward the prescriptions.The last part of this paper is the epilogue,the author points out the inadequacies and main difficulties,which need to be explored further by the author.
