In recent years,China has witnessed a huge leap in its e-commercial retailing, which has turned into a backbone of China's retailing and gradually become a significant part of global retailing. However, though e-commercial texts play a vital role in connecting cross-border e-commercial corporation, the study of e-commercial texts has not been attached enough importance as it deserves. In this translation report, the source text is excerpted from the 9th chapter of an untranslated Chinese book,The Research of E-commerce and New Retail,an influential work written by senior researchers in the field of e-commerce.By taking this e-commercial text as the translation object, this report was designed to explore the translation methods and skills of e-commercial texts with an aim to introduce China's e-commercial enterprises and its' innovative practice to the whole world. In this translation project, the author first analyzed the source text and found it was an informative text, plain in language, formal in expression, and objective as well as rigorous in content, which was aimed at introducing the innovative practice of China's e-commercial enterprises to its readers. Moreover, the source text mainly featured in three aspects: at the lexical level, coinages, proper nouns, and four-character idioms were frequently employed;at the syntactic level, slogans, verb plus objective structures and sentences with active voice were always involved;at the discoursal level, discourses were always without conjunctions and consist of long sentences. Then,in line with the features of the three aspects,a theoretical model with communicative translation as its core, supplemented by the semantic translation, was significantly employed in translation.Subsequently, skills were discussed in specific cases in order to produce on target language readers an effect that the source language readers may obtain from the source text and ensure an effective transmission of information. Finally,a conclusion on the strategies and skills of e-commercial text translation was drawn and deficiencies of this translation project were illustrated.Findings in this report are mainly as follows:(1)e-commercial text though as a branch of business texts has its' unique features and difficulties of translation. Therefore,it is of great necessity to study the e-commercial text;(2)The translation model of combining communicative translation with semantic translation is appropriate for e-commercial text translation and of remarkable superiority. This translation is of great significance theoretically and practically.Theoretically, this project is a significant attempt of applying Peter Newmark's theory of communicative translation and semantic translation into e-commercial text translation which thought is widely applied in translating various kinds of texts but hardly employed in e-commercial text translation.Practically,as the source text involves the innovative practice of China's e-commerce,this project is conducive tointroducing the innovative practice of e-commercial enterprises into the whole world. Moreover, the research on e-commercial text translation will also contribute to international e-commerce exchange and cooperation.
