In order to enhance China's cultural soft power and increase its influence in the world,the translation of Chinese cultural works becomes more and more important.The author selects The Anthology of Colored Printmaking by Chinese woodcut master Zhang Baibo as a translation practice project.As an expository text,this work makes historical background and theme creations as clues to tell the Mr.Zhang's art experiences of his hard explorations and painstaking researches on woodcut and color print making.Some of its translation problems are analyzed in this report.Newmark put forward the theory of semantic translation and communicative translation in 1980 s,which showed new thoughts and directions to translation studies.In this translation report,after making brief introductions to this report and the translation project,the author elaborates the characteristics and differences between semantic translation and communicative translation,and then exemplifies their specific applications through cases analysis.Finally,a conclusion is made that semantic and communicative translation play an effective role in translating such expository texts and should be combined flexibly in practice since both of them have their own merits and defects. |
