An Interpretation Report On Technical Meetings Under The Guidance Of Gile's Effort Model

With the rapid development of the world economy and the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative,China's international cooperation has been rising into a new height,including politics,economy,culture,education,science and technology,etc.During this process,the importance of interpretation has become increasingly important.Outstanding,smooth and accurate interpretation plays an indispensable role in communication.As a pillar industry of the manufacturing industry,the automotive industry is also constantly introducing foreign capital and advanced technology,which provides not only a platform for exchanges for automotive technicians,but also challenges and opportunities to the translators and interpreters.Under this situation,the author selects the five interpretation practices in Jiangling Motors Co.,Ltd.as the material,in order to explore the guiding role of Gile's Effort Model in automobile interpretation.In this report,the author first introduces the background and objectives of the report and then analyzes the structure and significance of the report.Secondly,relevant technical terms are collected and the features of the source interpretation materials are analyzed in order to ensure the smooth implementation of interpretation practice.Thirdly,based on the literature overview,the development of Gile's Effort Model and its application at home and abroad is introduced.At the same time,the domestic researches of science and technology English are also summarized.Then under the guidance of the simultaneous interpretation formula of Gile's Effort Model,the author conducts a detailed case analysis of the problems encountered in the interpretation process and puts forward the corresponding coping strategies.Finally,the author summarizes the major findings and put forward some suggestions in terms of the limitations.By decomposing the simultaneous interpretation formula of Gile's Effort Model,it is found that:(1)In terms of listening difficulties,problems mainly focus on the numbers,units,and speaker's rate,etc.,when facing these challenges,interpreters should conduct some pointed practice of numbers and units.In addition,the listening and analyzing ability and speaking competence should be improved.(2)In terms of memory difficulties,the problem mainly stems from excessive information,terminologies and low short-term capacity.To addressing these problems,interpreters should strengthen the logic ability training,improve the short-term memory capacity,and cultivate the habit of long-term accumulation for professional knowledge.(3)In terms of production difficulties,the problem can be attributed to complicated mechanical principle,insufficient bilingual competence and difference in way of thanking between English and Chinese.The efforts can be taken from following aspects: consciously awareness of the differences between English and Chinese,repeatedly interpretation practice with the same materials so as to find the problems.(4)Due to the lack of interpretation experience and lack of corresponding background knowledge,it's easy to encounter coordination problems.However,the cultivation of interpreters' coordination ability can not be built in a day,but a qualified interpreter should improve their interpretation skills and make adequate preparation before each interpretation task.This report aims to explore problems in technical meetings interpretation and to propose corresponding solutions from the perspective of Gile's Effort Model.In addition,it is hoped that some lessons will be provided for the author's future interpretation in the course of being a qualified interpreter.
