This translation practice report is based on the translation practice in the second chapter of The Slave Ship: A Human History.Based on the unique perspective of the slave ship, this book reveals the history of the violent, evil and fearful slave trade in the18 th century, which is showing the whole situation in detail and objective description. The book was selected as a translation practice project, aiming to let more Chinese readers experience history, understand the important role slave ships played in the development of capitalism, and understand how modernization, ethnicity and economic globalization based on exploitation came into being. The translation practice report is divided into the following four parts. The first part is the introduction to the translation project, mainly including the project background, content and practical significance of the project. The second part describes the translation process, including pre-translation preparation, difficulty expectations such as proper noun translation, rhetoric identification and processing, etc.,and emphatically summarizes the problems encountered in the translation process and analyzes the reasons. The third part is the theory application and case analysis. In view of the problems in the translation process,it is necessary to establish the functional equivalence theory as the guidance, and apply appropriate translation skills to correct the translation, solve the problems and improve the quality of the translation from three aspects of lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence and textual equivalence. The fourth part is the summary of this translation practice, including the experience and lessons accumulated in the process of translation, which is expected to be helpful to future translation practice.
