China's rapid development and continual opening up lead to more international exchanges and attract more international students to study in China.China Scholarship Council offers Chinese Government Scholarship to excellent international students and sponsors“China Perception”activities nationwide for them.Organizers of the activities are Chinese higher education institutions authorized by China Scholarship Council.Huazhong University of Science and Technology is one of them.School of International Education of Huazhong University of Science and Technology is in charge of“China Perception”activities.Theme of the activity was set as“China Perception—100International Doctors Explore Optics Valley”.The activity has been held in 2016 and2017.“China Perception—The 3rd 100 international doctors explore Optics Valley”was scheduled on June 26th,2018.The author acted as an interpreter for the opening ceremony and two visits on June26th,2018.The report is based on these interpreting tasks.It gives a detailed description of these interpreting tasks,elaborates the interpreting process and includes some case analysis from the perspective of the Interpretive Theory of Translation.This report discussed difficulties including accents,terms,note-taking,long sentences,and sayings in the practice and the author's strategies to handle them.To deal with accent,the author resorted to verbal context and the speaker.The former means figuring out the meaning of words pronounced with strong accent according to verbal context and words the author could hear clearly,while the latter means discussing with the speaker in a whisper when permitted.When coping with terms or technological words,the author adopted literal translation.Concerning difficulties in taking notes,the author applied omission.She omitted some information in her notes on purpose.When interpreting long sentences,the author applied the interpreting method of cutting them into short ones.To deal with sayings,the author adopted free translation.Reviewing the task,the author found some problems to be solved,including pet phrases and omission.In the meanwhile,the author realized the importance of a good pre-interpreting preparation and listening to recordings after a practice.Problems discussed in this report commonly occur in student interpreters'practice,so it has reference value for improving their interpreting skills.
