This is a report on English-Chinese translation.The source text is taken from Testing Writing: Specifications for the E8-Standards Writing Tests-LTC Technical Report 4.The main content of the Technical Report 4 includes validity aspects of the E8 Writing test construct and related introduction of E8 Writing test specification version 2.The author hopes this translation may provide some inspirations for domestic readers who are interested in the language test,especially the writing test,and for teachers who engage in language assessment.In recent years,writing test,as a part of the comprehensive test of foreign language proficiency,especially the large-scale and standardized test,has been paid increasingly more attention by language testers,foreign language teachers and the government offcials in the education sector.Therefore,translating foreign materials related to foreign writing tests is of vital importance.It not only has the important reference significance to the domestic writing test,but also has the very strong enlightenment to enhance domestic teacher's assessment ability.The author explores the function of technical reports based on Newmark‘s theory of communicative translation,and discusses the translation strategies in technical reports from the perspectives of text type,translation process and translation purpose.The translation report consists of five parts.The first part is about task description.The author introduces the research background,source text,objective,significance and framework of the translation report.The second part is about pre-translation preparations,including the selection of translation tools,texts,theories and strategies.The third part introduces the translation process,encompassing the understanding of the source language and the organization of the target language,as well as the key points and difficulties in the translation process and the proofreading of the translation.The fourth part is concerned with the analysis of translation cases,mainly at the word,sentence,text level with several examples.The last part is a summary,mainly including the author‘s inspection in the translation process.
