| Ordinary readers are relatively unfamiliar with English financial news discourse,and it presents difficulty in understanding.For its translators,it is necessary to translate accurately in an easily understandable way.The use of conceptual metaphors in financial news can help to describe the state of economic development more clearly,and it can also help readers to better understand English financial knowledge.The use of conceptual metaphors appear more frequently in English financial news,and whether the translation of metaphors is reasonable is one of the important factors affecting the quality of translations.Conceptual metaphor is developed on the basis of metaphor theory.The current research on metaphors in China mainly appears in the field of linguistics.In recent years,related research on conceptual metaphors in translation has become increasingly popular.There are relatively few researches on metaphor translation,such as literary texts,which contain strong emotional colors,and there are relatively few studies that combine metaphor translation with specific English financial news texts.Therefore,the main object of this research is the translation of conceptual metaphors in English financial news.This study is based on Newmark's semantic translation and communicative translation theory.Combined with the analysis of the corresponding translations of the financial news section and the translation on ftchinese.website of the Financial Times from 2016 to 2018,the findings of the research are as follows:Firstly,the study summarizes three characteristics of the use of conceptual metaphors in English financial news: 1.the use of conceptual metaphors in a series of financial news,2.the use of conceptual metaphors of human-sourced domains to map to English financial news,3.mapping to source domains with strong western culture in English financial news.Secondly,the study summarizes four translation methods for dealing with conceptual metaphors: 1.Translating metaphorical images and directly translating the metaphorical images of the source language corresponding to the target language culture.Converting the metaphorical image,transforming the metaphorical image of the source language corresponding to the target language culture into the corresponding metaphorical image in the target language.2.Recombining the metaphorical expression,re-integrating the metaphorical expression in the source language that needs to change the translation order.3.Add metaphorical expressions,find corresponding and appropriate metaphorical images in the target language and add translated versions of the source language.This research can provide reference for theoretical and practical research on English financial news translation,English for Specific purposes,business English writing and English financial news writing. |
