Self-repairs have been of great interest to a large number of scholars during the past decades and a number of studies have been carried out on it home and abroad. This thesis is a report on the author's consecutive interpreting for Alexandria Community & Human Services in order to answer the following questions: what types of self-repairs did the interpreter use in the task? What are the triggers of self-repairs? How do interpreters make self-repairs? What implication do self-repairs have? This thesis shows that scholars have different classifications of self-repairs.According to Levelt(1983: 51-56),there are D repairs,A repairs(AA,AL,AC,ALC)E repairs(EL,ES,EF,EG).In addition,Petite(2005: 44)divides self-repairs into input-generated repairs and output-generated repairs. While input-generated repairs are used to achieve greater resemblance of the output with the input,output-generated repairs are to achieve greater relevance by maximizing the efficiency of the output and minimizing the processing effort of the listeners.Self-repairs can have both positive and negative implication and can be made by adopting conjunctions or juxtaposition.By analyzing the author's own interpreting practice, she found that various types of self-repairs were used in her interpretation, including D-repairs,A-repairs and E-repairs,etc.In addition, there are both input-generated and output-generated repairs made by the interpreter during the two-hour meeting. She adopted either conjunctions or juxtapositions to make seamless repairs. Some repairs made her information more precise and appropriate, thus enhancing the quality of the communication while some others are not necessary and even make her message redundant.
