This report is based on an interpreting task undertaken by the interpreter--the author.Interpreters are required to acquire bilingual abilities that allow them to interpret efficiently and fluently so that communication goals can be achieved. In May,2018,the author was employed to interpret in a meeting for an engineer from Volund,a Danish company.Based on the consecutive interpreting service provided by the author, this report briefs the whole process of the task including pre-task communication, material preparation,on-site interpreting and post-task analysis. The material that is analyzed is a transcription of the interpreter's on-site interpreting recording.By analyzing the transcription, the report finds that the interpreter's bilingual abilities need to be perfected as there are lots of disfluencies, such as pauses, repetitions and self-repairs,etc.This report focuses on the self-repairs made by the interpreter in the on-site interpreting process. In order to form a theoretical framework, the author draws upon previous psycholinguistics studies such as Levelt's Loop Theory of self-monitoring,and illustrates how this mechanism triggers self-repairs.In light of previous classification and the author's own understanding of self-repairs,she divides self-repairs into: different information repairs, same information repairs, appropriateness repairs, phonetic error repairs, lexical error repairs as well as grammatical error repairs. The author carefully selects typical examples of every sort of self-repair.Although not every self-repair is caused by one single reason and it may be an outcome of multiple causes,a major reason behind each of them can still be found out—the speaker's ambiguity, interpreter's inadequate glossary preparation, improper choice of words, unfamiliarity with some words' pronunciation and grammatical rules or nervousness, etc. After qualitative analysis, the author put forwards some suggestions to each type of self-repair.
