Interpreting can hardly be as fluent and accurate as written version.It is full of defluencies such as pause,repetition,etc.In interpreting,a qualified interpreter is required to deliver an interpreting output with accuracy and efficiency and avoid frequent self-repairs.Therefore,self-repairs,as a common phenomenon in interpreting,is worth analyzing.And it has been of interest to a number of scholars both at home and abroad.This report is based on the author's consecutive interpreting for an investment promotion meeting.In this report,the author briefs the process of the interpreting task.Then the author introduces related studies on self-repairs.By analyzing the interpreting transcription,four major types of self-repairs are identified,including different information repairs,appropriateness repairs,error repairs and noneffective repairs.After analysis,the author reveals that self-repairs are mainly caused by the lack of bilingual abilities,weaknesses in listening and comprehension,note-taking and language expression.The author then proposes some coping tactics targeted at improving fluency in interpreting,thus shedding light on future interpreting studies and practices.
