In the process of interpreting, the interpreter mainly depends on "listening" and"parsing" to input and decode source language. In consecutive interpreting, the interpreter just has one more time to input the information. Therefore, the ability of listening and parsing is the key to accurately deliver the speaker's intention. This report is based on the research that how the ability of listening and parsing affects the interpreter's output. In the text, the author accurately introduced the phases of "pre-interpreting preparation","interpreting" and "post-interpreting".As a practical report on Chinese to English consecutive interpreting, this report depicts a CI task conducted by the interpreter for CCTV documentary Red Line. This documentary is the first one that gives a panoramic close-up to the ecological safety at home and introduces the current situation of China's ecological environment and the challenges of it.The interpreter selected some representative cases in Chapter "water resources"and Chapter "smog".This consecutive interpreting task requires that the interpreter has strong ability of listening and parsing.Through case-analysis,the interpreter found that the ability of listening and parsing influenced the whole interpreting process in many ways, mainly including unclear notes, inflexible delivery, failing to break the original sentence patterns and lacking in logical analysis. To address these problems, the author worked out five corresponding approaches:while taking notes, properly use symbols and clearly use conjunctions;to master some regular bilingual transforming rules;to infer semantic information.
