| With the advancement of globalization,China’s enterprises are increasingly participating in international cooperation and competition,especially for giant contractors which are the pioneers of the Belt and Road Initiative.However,the complexity in international tenders often puts them at a disadvantage as language barriers exist.Engineering bidding documents are the focus of attention for competitors in the tender process,and the translation of this document is essential for bidders.This is a report on the translation of the Conditions of Contract,which is the most significant part of the bidding documents released by the largest state-owned public transportation operator in Malaysia.The Conditions of Contract aims for the package construction of the Light Rail Transit Line 3 in Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia.It stipulates the rights and obligations for related parties,formed as an integral part of bidding documents for the contractor’s reference.The translator analyzes the general clauses which can reflect some typical features in international engineering bidding documents to provide a reference for China’s contractors in global competition.This report firstly gives an introduction of the main content and features of engineering bidding documents and Conditions of Contract,reasons for selecting this text and requirements of the translation task.Then is about the translation process which can be demonstrated into three stages: pre-translation preparations,text analysis and post-translation analysis.Detailed analysis is carried out from the lexical and syntactical perspectives.With the guidance of Liu Zhongde’s“faithfulness,expressiveness and closeness”,the translator discusses the translation methods to the translation of end-weight,passive voice and negation in the source text.Accuracy is the first priority in the translation of Conditions of Contract,and literal translation method is used accordingly to bring about that effect.In addition,adjustment of word order is a necessity to improve the readability and fluency of the translation. |
