Since the reform and opening up policy was introduced in the late 1970 s,China has witnessed more exchanges in all aspects with the rest of the world than ever before as it achieved fast economic development. In the past forty years, interpreters have played an ever increasingly important role in business exchanges and cooperation.Under the guidance of Ren Wen's interpreter's visibility consciousness, the author intends to reconsider the role played by the interpreter who used to be regarded as “an invisible person” in interpreting practice.Based on the author's personal liaison interpreting experience, the author believes it is impossible for interpreters to remain completely invisible in liaison interpreting. This report describes in detail the pre-task preparation, interpreting process, problems she encountered and post-task self-evaluation,and analyzes the coping strategies, including but not limited to omission and reorganization,tone-softening,addition,inquiry and temporary turn-ignoring from the perspective of interpreter's visibility to illustrate the different roles,namely,“gatekeeper”,“co-interlocutor” and “coordinator” played by the interpreter in an attempt to provide references for future liaison interpreters.
