With international exchanges become ever closer,interpreting activity has become an indispensable part during this process.Except for the necessary interpreting skills,all trades have had higher demand for the professional competence(PC)of interpreters.The author will firstly explore whether the “Second Session of the Medical Interpreting workshop”(July,9th,2018-July,20 th,2018)held by Guangdong University of Foreign Studies has effect on student interpreters' professional competence,and in what aspect does it affects student interpreters' PC;secondly,the author will try to dig out the advantages and disadvantages of the short-term training courses by comparing it with practice-oriented courses in the GDUFS Model;finally basing on the answers to the first two questions the author will try to give some suggestions on student interpreters' professional competence improvement.According to the investigation,the author finds the “Second Session of the Medical Interpreting Workshop” course does have effects on student interpreters' PC,especially in their physical and psychological qualities.Compared to practice-oriented courses in the GDUFS Model,the short-term training courses represented by the workshop has the advantages like abundant teaching forms and the disadvantages as limited course duration.Basing on all the statistics,the author concludes several suggestions on improving student interpreters' professional competence with such short-term training courses.Basing on the research results,the author may conclude that the short-term training courses can help improve student interpreters' professional competence,and better help them meet the requirements of the market.At the same time,it can also contribute to the improvement of the existing MTI teaching system.
