This is a survey report on the effectiveness of the courses of GDUFS Medical Interpreting Workshop and whether it works on the construction of student interpreter's knowledge structure through the training.Given the increasing opportunities of medical interpreting in the market of South China,it is of great importance for interpreters who possess scarce medical knowledge to construct their knowledge structure in medical interpreting.In order to settle problem of market demand,Guangdong University of Foreign Studies initiated a medical interpreting workshop to help train the interpreters.The construction of knowledge structure on student interpreter by GDUFS workshop and its course arrangement reflect the effectiveness of the workshop as well as the quality of talents cultivated by the workshop.In the means of questionnaire survey and semi-structured interview,laying on the basis of Zhong Weihe's formula of knowledge requirements for interpreters,which is KI=KL+EK+S(P+AP),this survey focuses on the research and analysis of the effectiveness of GDUFS Medical interpreting workshop as well as its cultivation of knowledge structure required in practices.The subject of the research is all 36 student interpreters who have taken part in GDUFS Medical Interpreting Workshop in 2018.The interview subjects are 12 student interpreters selected.The survey report aims at answering four research questions:(1)what is the expectation and motivation of participants;(2)the importance of knowledge structure construction;(3)is the course arrangement of the workshop reasonable;(4)the follow-up influences of the workshop on participants.Via qualitative analysis of interview and quantitative analysis of questionnaire,the thesis comes to conclusion: in general,the course arrangement of the workshop is reasonable,helping student interpreters to construct their knowledge structure.However,it still requires the workshop to self-improve,such as adjusting the difficulty level to different phases of learning and balancing the cultivation on different aspects of knowledge structure.By illustrating the merits as well as problems of this workshop,it hopes to offer some feasible solutions and suggestions,so that the GDUFS model can be promoted to domestic universities.This essay will also provide further experience for other interpreting workshops that will be organized by GDUFS in the near future.
