The Tang Dynasty witnesses the peak of social development in ancient China, which embraces and absorbs cultures of varying nations and countries with an open attitude. The hand-held is a common funerary in the Tang Tomb and serves as an important part of the funeral customs.Among previous researches on funerary objects in Tang Dynasty, most of them attach major importance to funerary objects in mouth, but rarely touch on the hand-held.However,the systematic research on hand-held can promote further understanding of funeral customs of the Tang Dynasty, which is of reference value.Based on archaeological materials, this paper systematically straightens out previous researches to divide the development context of the hand-held in Tang Dynasty into three categories as hand-held jade,hand-held coins and other hand-held objects.Furthermore,it carries out a simple classification and stage study to initially delve into the regional characteristics, characteristics of times, class characteristics and so on.On this basis, this paper has the preliminary discussion on the phenomenon of the replacement of jades by stones, the source and combination of hand-held and mouth-held,as well as the cultural exchange between China and the West.
