Report On Liaison Interpreting In An International Kindergarten

The essence of interpreting is a kind of communication activity,and the form of liaison interpretation determines that interpreters need to actively participate in the communication process.The cases discussed in this thesis are specific and representative.When conflict discourse between clients occurs,how can the interpreter perform the task reasonably and effectively? This thesis will combine the practice of liaison interpreting with interdisciplinary research,including sociology and pragmatic theory,to get new inspiration for better solving the conflict situations.In the selection of materials,the author focuses on the topic of“Conflict Talk” in long-term liaison interpretation.According to Professor Liao Meizhen's “Principle of Goal Direction”(PGD),the secondary purpose needs to obey the superior purpose.So before we choose an appropriate interpreting strategy,we should analyze the priority order of the different levels of “Purpose”.Through an extensive review of the research literature on “Conflict Talk”,and combined with practical experience,the author summarizes some interpreting strategies to deal with conflict talks,including interruption strategy,suggestion strategy,equivocation strategy,humor strategy and the combination of different strategies.This report is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is the task description,including the background of the practice,therequirements of the clients and the feature of this practice.The second chapter summarizes the whole process of the task,including pre-task preparation,interpreting process,and post-task evaluation.The third chapter introduces the theories,introducing the PGD and “Conflict Talk”respectively.The fourth chapter carries out case analysis,which illustrates the interpreting strategy of conflict talk under the guidance of the PGD.In the end,the author draws an conclusion,which summarizes the research results and deficiencies in this study,providing some guidance to the work and study in the future.
