Academic procrastination is a common phenomenon among college students,which not only affects the smooth completion of their studies,but also has negative impacts on their physical and mental health.It is of great theoretical and practical significance to explore the current situation of college students' academic procrastination and its influencing factors,especially its internal psychological mechanism.The present study investigated 685 college students with four scales: The Academic Procrastination Inventory for College Students,The Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale(MAAS),The Self-Control Scale(SCS)and The Rumination Response Scale(RRS),to investigate the multiple mediating effects of self-control and rumination between mindfulness and academic procrastination.The results show that:(1)Academic procrastination is common among college students.College students' academic procrastination,mindfulness,self-control and rumination scores were in the average level on the whole.(2)Significant differences are found in gender,grade and major on academic procrastination of college students,and there are significant differences in grade and major on mindfulness and rumination,and significant major and family locus differences on self-control ability are also found in college students.(3)The higher the level of mindfulness of college students,the less rumination and academic procrastination;The stronger the self-control ability of college students,the less rumination and academic procrastination.The higher the level of mindfulness of college students,the stronger the self-control ability.The higher the level of rumination of college students,the more obvious the academic procrastination.(4)Mindfulness and self-control are protective factors for academic procrastination,while rumination is a risk factor for academic procrastination.(5)Self-control and rumination have multiple mediating effects between mindfulness and academic procrastination.The effect of mindfulness on academic procrastination can be realized by self-control alone,by rumination alone,or by the chain mediating effect of selfcontrol and rumination.
