A Study Of Chinese Translation Of English Abstract Nouns

English is abundant in abstract nouns,which proves to be a real headache for translators in Enlish-Chineses translation.Since it is quite essential for translators to grasp abstract nouns,with examples from Letter from Greenwich Village,the paper tries to elaborate and explore five different translation methods employed in the translation of abstract nouns : literal translation to maintain the abstractness,shifting from nouns to verbs,translation with supplementary information,concretizing the abstract nouns and using idioms as a substitute.
