Included in the "About Us" part of a university's website is generally key information such as the university's philosophy, history, faculty, culture, alumni, academics and research, etc. Therefore,it serves as an important bridge for linking the university with the world Learning and translating the "About Us" parts of the webpage of top-notch universities is conducive to the designing and making of English web pages of domestic universities, which will,to some extent, contribute to the promotion of their internationalizationBased on the Academic Ranking of World Universities(ARWU)in Engineering/Technology and Computer Sciences-2016,the translator selected the "About Us" parts(or the "About" and similar parts)in the web profiles of thirty prestigious overseas universities to translate.Based on the E-C translation practice, the report is written in light of Peter Newmark's theory of text typology and the translation approaches thereofThe source texts,in this report, are identified as,in Newmark's terminology,"informative" and "vocative".First,a great variety of information is included in the "About Us" parts.Second, they are written in simple style(simple language and structures)to attract potential students, parents, faculty and investments. Therefore, the "communicative"translation approach is adopted accordingly to make the target text readily acceptable and comprehensible to the readership. Some techniques, from lexical and syntactic level, such as transposition, voice shifting, and integration and segmentation of clauses are adopted in the process of translation. To improve the translation,in post-translation,terminology unification, language refinement and proofreading have been conducted. Moreover, failures in the translation and proposals for improvement are discussed in the three stages:pre-translation,in-translation and post-translationThe translations of the thirty top-notch universities' website profiles may serve as,as the author expects,a reference to Chinese universities in their website making and to translators of similar tasks.
