| This report on translation practice is based on my translation of Chapters 11 and 12 of The Realm of Rhetoric by Chaim Perelman and the author tries to analyze and reflect the translation in lexical level,syntactic level and textual level through functional equivalence theory and communicative translation theory.This essay consists of five parts,mainly including introduction,translation process,theoretical basis,analysis of the translation cases,and conclusion of this translation practice.Firstly,introduction includes a task description and an overview of the report;task process introduces the preparation work before translation,the tasks during translation process and quality control methods after translation;theoretical basis mainly discusses the content of functional equivalence theory and communicative translation theory and their feasibility;as the emphasis of this essay,chapter four analyzes how to use translation theory through the process of translation of The Realm of Rhetoric;finally,the conclusion part points out the progress the author makes and the shortage that the author should overcome:as a translator,the author should complete every translation task conscientiously,keep revising and improving,stay humble and always on the way to better translation;at the same time,the author realizes enhancing both English and Chinese writing skills and the understanding of translation theory is very important to correct those misunderstanding of the source text and inaccuracy of the translation.Through all the analysis and summary above,the author tries to combine translation practice and theoretical reflection closely,in a word,under the guidance of communicative translation genre theory,the author analyzes and discusses this translation through exploration of the words,terms,sentences and style of ST.It helps the author deeply understand the original text and master the translation theoretical knowledge. |
