In the translation project of The Hitchhiker's Guide to XML Authoring, based on the source text analysis from linguistic and non-linguistic aspects, some text features are found, such as many terms,second-person point of view, software operating, and figures. These features cause understanding and technical troubles in translation.Under the guidance of Hans Vermeer's Skopos theory, this translation report explores the translation of technical documents from linguistic and non-linguistic levels.Translation skills, such as noting, zero translation, negation, amplification, division and free translation are applied to deal with the linguistic troubles, while the non-linguistic troubles caused by figures, links, publishing and operating also need to be stressed in technical translation. The translator aims to improve the translation efficiency and accuracy by applying translation strategies based on skopos rule, coherence rule, and fidelity rule of Skopos theory.
