Translation Of Descriptions Of Environment In Novels

Foreign popular literature has always been the focus of translation,and novel is the most concerned type in foreign literature.Combined with the difficulties that the translator met in the translation of the historical novel Beneath a Scarlet Sky,this thesis puts forward systemic ways to translate descriptions of environment in the novel from three aspects: words,sentences and paragraphs.First,the translator can use commendatory and derogatory words and reduplicated words to enforce the expressiveness.Second,at the sentence level,the methods of splitting and integrating sentences,paying attention to rhythms can be adopted.Finally,at the paragraph level,it is suggested that the translator master the emotional tone,pay attention to the spatial sequence of the environment and adjust order of sentences.By developing translation methods and analyzing specific examples,this paper aims to provide references for translators in their practice and improve the translation quality of novels on the whole.
