This thesis is a translation report on the translation practice of the short story The Thaw by Chi Zijian,a famous contemporary female writer in China. The Thaw published on Writer Magazine in 2009 describes a story after the Cultural Revolution. The main character Su Zeguang and his family lived in a small village in Northeast China experienced a crisis in their life.It is a unique historical period,so “The Thaw” has both a natural and social meaning.Traditional translation theories focus on the importance of the original text and the original author, ignoring the position of the translators. After the “cultural turn” in western translation studies, the status of the translators has been improved and translator’s subjectivity is recognized. This report adopts action research, expounding the exertion of translator’s subjectivity in the author’s translation practice. On the basis of the characteristics of literature translation and with the guidance of translator’s subjectivity, the author attempts to understand and express the original text accurately.Achieving structure and semantics balance in the translation, she explores different ways dealing with proverbs and idioms,culture-loaded words and rhetoric devices to express the culture thoughts of the original author as accurate as possible. The translator has learned so much about the difficulties of the contemporary literature translation in the practice. The translator,as the subject of translation practice,is always affected by subjectivity throughout the process and translator’s subjectivity is a critical factor that determines the success of a translation.Only it has been well studied and made full use of,we will not be replaced by the highly developed machine translation. At the same time, the teaching idea and practice of “putting people first” should be further emphasized by the teaching institution to contribute on the development of translation.Figure 0;Table 0;Reference 32...
