This paper discloses the initiative of the translator in translating process and indicates the effect of the translator's subjectivity on the translated text from the perspective of inter-subjectivity of translation. With the "cultural turn" in translation studies, proper and increasing attention has been paid to the cultural identity and subject status of the translator. That is to say, the cultural turn in translation studies has supported the academic "legislation" on the research of the subject of translation. This paper makes clear and defines the subjects of translation and points out that on the one hand, the translator is the only translation subject in translating act and behavior; on the other hand, not only the translator but also the author and reader are the subjects of translation in translating process. In last decades, consciousness of subjectivity in translation has been increasingly awakening. Meanwhile, the discussion of subject, subjectivity and inter-subjectivity has been the hot topic. That is to say, the research of subjectivity in translation will necessarily involve in the relationship among the subjects, which refers to the inter-subjectivity in translation study. The process, from the only emphasis of subject and subjectivity to the inter-subjectivity gives a full expression to advancement and progress of translation study. This paper holds that inter-subjectivity reflects the co-existence between subject and subject. On the one hand, subject does exist in the inter-subjective condition. On the other hand, the essence of the subject is individual. In a word, inter-subjectivity is the co-existence among individualities. Inter-subjectivity is not against subjectivity and individuality but a reconfirmation and excess of the subjectivity. Inter-subjectivity is the generalization of individuality and necessary form of existence. The present paper, based on a survey of the previous studies on translation, and of the retrospect of the "cultural turn" in translation, addresses the subjectivity of the translator and explores the connotation, characteristics and manifestation of the subjectivity of the translator in an attempt to further the research on translation subjectivity. Meanwhile, this paper holds that the creativity of the translator involves flexibility and respect for the subjectivity of the translator, therefore, the concept of creative treason is fully analyzed in this paper. It can be understood that creative treason is a high degree of accomplishment of fidelity to the source language text by breaking linguistic restrictions and bridging cultural gaps. Namely, the subjectivity of the translator is not arbitrary, which must be restricted by all kinds of subjective and objective factors. The translator must give full play to his creativity so as to achieve the translation ends. This paper takes the discussion of the subjectivity of the translator in literary translation as a central task. This paper is based on Turbulence:a novel written by Jia Pingwa and translated by Howard Goldblatt. The author of this article takes Turbulence for instance and aims at explaining the task of a translator which faithfully reproduces the source language text to the target text readers. As the subject of translation, a translator has to try his best to overcome the difficulties in order to successfully accomplish the task of translation through giving full play to the subjective initiative of the translator, namely, "creative treason" of the translator in translation. Finally, from the examples of Fu Zao's translated edition Turbulence, the thesis points out that "treason" is not the purpose of "creation" and "creative treason" as a style or manner of literary translation is to faithfully express and reproduce the source language text to the target text readers to the highest degree or extent from all the aspects. That is to say, "treason" is the manner or form of literary translation and realizing "faith" is the ultimate aim of the translation. In the end, the thesis points out the author's expected predication purpose and her further studies in this field.
