A Translation Practice Report Of What We Lose

The autobiographical novel,which combines the common features of autobiography and novel,has the characteristics of diversified narrative modes,exquisite emotions,attractive plots and so on.The translation of autobiographical novel demands higher requirements for the translation ability of the translator.Guided by the functional equivalence theory,this translation practice is to translate the second part of What We Lose and to explore the strategies and techniques used in the translation process based on the translation.There are five chapters demonstrated in this practical report.The first chapter briefly introduces the author of the original text and the content features of the novel.The second chapter concisely summarizes the functional equivalence theory of Eugene Nida and how the theory directs the translation of the novel.The third chapter mainly introduces the translation process including pre-translation preparation,some problems and solutions encountered in the translation process,and finally the revision and proofreading after the translation work.The fourth chapter is primarily about the case analysis of selected passages,starting from three aspects: lexical equivalence,syntactic equivalence and discourse equivalence.This chapter makes a detailed analysis of the translation techniques and strategies used in the process of translation practice under the guidance of functional equivalence theory.And the last chapter is conclusion.Through this translation activity,the translator has found that the functional equivalence theory shall be used as a guideline to keep the styles of the original text.When the maximum equivalence is achieved,the target readers can have the same feeling with the original readers.Figure 0;Table 0;Reference 24...
