Exhibition Design Of Tongren Nostalgia Pavilion Based On Regional Culture

In the context of urbanization and under the influence of the abstract manifestation of modernism,the cultural specificity gradually fades away,and the existence space of regional culture is constantly compressed,forming an awkward situation that all cities share similar construction styles.Facing with this dilemma,General Secretary Xi put forward that,history and culture are the souls of a city,and we should protect historical and cultural heritages just like cherishing our own lives.In response to the call of national policies and local demands,Tongren City of Guizhou Province has made great efforts to build people’s attachment to hometown,which takes regional culture as its foothold,taps cultural memories and arouses people’s homesickness through the establishment of Nostalgia Pavilion.As a window to show the local culture of Tongren City to the entire world,it is able to promote the development of rural tourism,strengthen the construction of spiritual civilization in countryside,and then become a powerful guarantee for poverty alleviation in both economics and culture.Nostalgia Pavilion is a kind of folklore museum.Based on the theories of folklore,museology,genius loci and spatial semantics,this paper carries out the practical design of Tongren Nostalgia Pavilion.Regarding regional culture as the core and nostalgia pavilion as the carrier,it shows the regional culture with minority characteristics,ethnic integration,inheritance of Confucianism,witchcraft culture,etc.through scenario-based and story-telling display techniques.The innovation of this design lies in exploring the relationship between regional culture and genius loci,and considering the combination of space and regional culture from the point of genius loci;applying spatial semantics to the design of exhibition space,thus regarding space as a part of the display;breaking the independence of exhibits from space and transforming cultural symbols into spatial context,so as to narrate regional culture through the integration of exhibits and space.The artisticconception of nostalgia pavilion is extended to make its realm go beyond the exhibition hall itself.Depending on the rich local ancient architectural resources of Tongren City,the group of ancient buildings are used to replace the exhibition hall,thus breaking up the space limitation and expanding the cultural memory to the wider space.
