In the history of modern Chinese literature,the unique phenomenon that literati and writers participate in the process of editing periodicals and magazines has formed a bright cultural landscape.These writers have established a public cultural space by means of newspapers and magazines in order to express their literary knowledge and realize their literary ideals.All of this plays an important role in promoting the development of modern Chinese culture.Therefore,by investigating the historical facts of literati and writers’ participation in Editing Journals and magazines,we can find out how different literati writers convey their literary ideas and how to make a journal an important place in the literary world when facing the specific environment of the times.This paper mainly is based on The Short Story Magazine edited by Ye Shengtao.The full paper is divided into three chapters besides the introduction.The introduction part mainly discusses the significance of the topic,from the history to current situation of the research,the thoughts and methods of the paper.Besides,the purpose of this part mainly focuses on the style and characteristics of literati writers Editing Journals and magazines is leads to the uniqueness of Ye Shengtao’s editing of The Short Story Magazine as a writer.Then it gives a classified overview of the research status of Ye Shengtao and The Short StoryMagazine,and explores the necessity between Ye Shengtao and The Short Story Magazine.The first chapter mainly discusses the origin of Ye Shengtao and The Short Story Magazine.This chapter mainly introduces the origin of Ye Shengtao and The Short Story Magazine by analyzing the development of The Short Story Magazine under different editors.Then it discusses the historical background and reasons of Ye Shengtao’s edition of The Short Story Magazine.The second chapter mainly discusses the editorial characteristics of Ye Shengtao’s The Short Story Magazine.Ye Shengtao edits periodicals from the writer’s aesthetic perspective,which makes The Short Story Magazine different from the former editor-in-chief.This chapter mainly studies these differences from three aspects: Ye Shengtao’s desalination theory,focusing on creation;incorporating new authors;adjusting columns and reforming images and advertisements.It can be seen that Ye Shengtao’s aesthetic vision and inclusive spirit not only changed the original style of The Short Story Magazine,but also found a group of new writers represented by Mao Dun,Ding Ling,Ba Jin,Shen Congwen and Dai Wangshu,which profoundly influenced the development history of modern literature in the 1930 s.The third chapter mainly discusses Ye Shengtao’s steady promotion of The Short Story Magazine.It is mainly divided into two sections todiscuss.By using the method of combining history with theory,the author places Ye Shengtao’s editing of The Short Story Magazine in the historical context of the failure of the Great Revolution and the rise of revolutionary literature,and finds that Ye Shengtao’s steady promotion of The Short Story Magazine mainly lies in two aspects: improving the literary quality of The Short Story Magazine and sticking to the independence of The Short Story Magazine.It is the persistence and change of these two aspects that enable The Short Story Magazine to maintain the characteristics of a pure literature periodical in the steep turn of new literature and continue to develop in the established direction.The conclusion summarizes the positive influence of literati writers’ unique aesthetic vision on the development of periodicals and modern literature by discussing the cultural scene of literati writers represented by Ye Shengtao participating in the editing of periodicals and magazines.
