This thesis is a practice report on the author's interpreting for the media interview of Ballet Philippines' representative. It discusses the importance of pre-task preparation for the quality of consecutive interpretation under the Effort Model.Interpretation requires interpreters to make as much preparation as possible especially as to interpretation assignments involving much professional knowledge so that interpreters can have better performance. The paper is divided into six chapters. The first chapter involves the definition and importance of pre-task preparation. The second part gives an introduction to Gile's Effort Model. The third chapter describes the interpretation task. The fourth part focuses on the author's preparation for the task,The fifth chapter mainly consists of case analysis of the positive effect produced by pre-task preparation. The last part is a conclusion of the whole paper. The core of the paper lies in the fifth chapter, which combines the Effort Model theory with the author's own practice.Gile pointed out in his Effort Model theory that the energy consumed during each step of the interpretation process should be less than the interpreter's total effort and the whole effort spent in interpretation should also not exceed the interpreter's total capacity available.According to the framework of the Effort Model and the equation concerning consecutive interpretation proposed by Gile, the author analyzed the productive effect of preparation from the perspective of listening comprehension, memory and note-taking and expression. And then the author had a summary of the analysis. This paper offers some experience for those green hands in this industry in terms of making proper preparation for an interpretation task and at the same time it serves as an evaluation on the author himself so that the author, also an interpreter can make more progress in the coming days.
