Project Report On The Consecutive Interpreting For 2017 ASEAN Business Delegation To Nanning Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone

The 14th China-ASEAN Expo and China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit were convened in Nanning,Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region during September,2017,against the backdrop of which,a 20-person delegation of ASEAN Investment Promotion and Industrial Park visited Nanning Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone,mainly to inspect Zhongguancun(Nanning)Innovation Demonstration Base and the ASEAN enterprises headquarter base which is tightly connected with the investment and cooperation with ASEAN member countries,meanwhile to learn about the projects there related to the cooperation with ASEAN.It is a project report that focuses on Chinese-English consecutive interpreting.The author was designated by the CAEXPO Secretariat to organize and coordinate the visit paid by the ASEAN delegation to Nanning Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone,and provide required interpretation service for it.Analyzing and summarizing the whole interpreting process,the report discusses from four major aspects including introduction,pre-interpreting preparation,interpretation process,case study and conclusion.The introduction presents the visit backdrop,roles of interpreter and the goal of this report.Chapter 2 describes the pre-interpreting preparation,which covers language proficiency,background knowledge,related documents and glossaries preparation.Chapter 3 refers to case study,in which the author firstly points out the interpreter's dual roles and the advantages as well as disadvantages,how to memorize words and terms,selections of words and expressions in the renderings and unexpected situations,at the same time,Danica Seleskovitch's Interpretive Theory of Translation and Daniel Gile's Effort Model are utilized in this part to analyze the mentioned challenges and put forward corresponding improvements.Last of all,the report summarizes the main content with its limitations and stresses the great significance of using interpreting theories to analyze and reflect on interpreting practice.This report is intended to level up the author's interpreting performance,and hopefully,fellow interpreting learners and practitioners can benefit from it with aspiration and methods.
