Be it during ancient times or in modern times,ceramics plays a role of cultural envoy.And thanks to the development of Belt and Road initiative as well as China's ever-increasing influence in the global arena,dramatically increasing number of interactive activities can be seen between China and the rest of the world.Thus,there is a huge demand for qualified interpreters.This report aims to analyze,with An Overview of Appreciation of Chinese Ancient Ceramics as interpreting material and under the guidance of Gile's Effort Model,the ways to reduce cognitive loads through pre-interpreting preparation and thus improve interpreting quality.Through case analysis,the difficulties encountered and tactics applied in the process of mocking consecutive interpreting are analyzed,and corresponding solutions are put forward.This is a report on mock consecutive interpreting of An Overview of Appreciation of Chinese Ancient Ceramics.This report contains four chapters: Chapter One is introduction,including the background,objectives and significance of the report;Chapter Two is task description,theoretical preparation,process of mock consecutive interpretation and post-interpreting work included;Chapter Three is case analysis,where difficulties and failures as well as causes and adopted tactics during comprehension stage and speech delivery phase are discussed;Chapter Four is conclusion,including major findings and limitations of this mock consecutive interpreting report.Through analyzing cases of this mock consecutive interpreting,the author of this report has the following findings: firstly,based on interpreting practice before as well as the author's own experiences,paying too much attention to note-taking is not conducive to delivering high-quality consecutive interpreting and strengthening the training of short-term memory should be a priority for students when they start practicing interpretation;secondly,theoretical guidance is beneficial for interpreters to tackle problems encountered during interpreting process;thirdly,a relatively rich background knowledge can improve the efficiency of pre-interpreting preparation and thus enhance interpreting quality;fourthly,public speaking is an important skill for a good interpreter,whose role is not only the bridge between cultures but also a conveyer of speaker's feeling and emotion;fifthly,a well pre-interpreting preparation is half the battle and post-interpreting review is vital for student or novice interpreters because that enables them to reflect their own weaknesses and strengths and thus lay solid foundation for them to deliver high-quality interpretation in future career.It is hoped that this report can provide suggestions for student or novice interpreters in the process of consecutive interpreting and highlight the role of mock interpreting in improving interpreting skills and it is also expected that this mock consecutive interpreting report can show the beauty and charm of ceramics and acquaint more people with ceramics knowledge and culture.
