Compounds In Sanjiang Dong

The study of Dong compound words is an important part of Dong vocabulary research and has a close relationship with lexicology and syntax of Dong language.It has important academic value for both the linguistic ontology research and the study of language information processing.However,the study of Dong compounds is still rare,and there is a lack of systematic and comprehensive case studies.Based on the language data collected in the field investigation,utilizing the relevant theories and methods of general linguistics,lexicography and semantics,and taking a comprehensive approach of combining quantitative and qualitative analysis,this thesis aims to provide an overall and systematic analysis on the compound words in Sanjiang Dong,hoping to deepen the understanding of Dong morphology and to provide a case study for compound study cross-linguistically as well.The paper focuses on the description,analysis and discussion of the syntactic and semantic relations between the elements of the compound,the connection between constituent meaning and the meaning of the whole compound,and the word class of compound,in order to find the answers for the following questions:(1)What are the structure types of compounds in Sanjiang Dong?(2)What are the semantic features of the compounds of different structure types? And what is the relationship between constituent meaning and the meaning of the whole compound?(3)In terms of the word classes of these compounds,what different word classes do they display? How are their word classes related to those of their constituents?This research shows that the syntactic structure of Sanjiang Dong compound words can be divided into five basic types: subordinate type,coordinate type,subject-predicate(S-P)type,verb-object(V-O)type,and verb-complement(V-R)type.Among them,subordinate compounds can be divided into the center-attribute type and the adverbial-nuclear type.In terms of semantic relationship,it is found that there are 28 kinds of semantic features in Sanjiang Dong compounds,including the texture material,the place,the attribute and so on.And the relationships between the constituent meaning and the meaning of the whole compound are of five types: synonymous combination type(A+B?A or B),semantic integration type(A+B?AB or BA),expansive type(A+B<AB),dissipative type(A+B?A or A+B?B)and extended type(A+B?C?D).In terms of word class,according to the grammatical meaning,structural form and syntactic function of the compound words in Sanjiang Dong language,the compound words can be grouped into three categories: compound nouns,compound verbs and compound adjectives.There is a close relationship between the word class of a compound word and that of its component.They are mostly corresponding,but it does not always have a neat one-to-one correspondence.
