The compilation of teaching materials used for TCSOL has always been one of the most popular research topics in pedagogical academic circles.The theory behind this compilation is ceaselessly improving.As one of the most important principles of teaching materials,the scientific connotation is also being explored by scholars as a new outlet for facilitating the improved compilation of teaching materials.However,specialized articles,that analyze the scientific connotation of a single teaching material,can rarely be found.Most articles incidentally referred to the scientific aspect,but most are relatively simple.This article will use the method of literature analysis and data statistics to make a detailed analysis of the scientific connotation based on Hanyu Jiaocheng(Volume III).The analysis covers four aspects of the scientific connotation: whether the teaching materials follow a logical learning progression,whether they keep the formal rules of language usage,whether they have appropriately selected content,and whether the materials prepare reasonable practice for learners.Scientific practice is a point that has often been ignored by researchers but is very essential.The study finds that Hanyu Jiaocheng(Volume III)is an excellent teaching material in general,but could still benefit from improvement,such as the control of the choice of new words and texts,the correction of erroneous partial and soft annotations,redundant and repetitive content,and vocabulary definitions that are not relevant to the lessons' exercises.In view of the above,we believe that the future compilation of teaching materials should focus on the selection of quality materials,controlling the learning difficulty of the texts,maintaining a more consistent learning curve throughout the materials,improving the annotation of pinyin and parts of speech,creating greater interaction between the different sections of every chapter,and reflecting the unique meaning of words.
