This paper is,based on the author's own consecutive interpreting experience,a practice report. The interpreting task was organized by the Chinese Academy of Governance and held at Tongling School of Administration, which is located in the city of Tongling,Anhui Province. The author of this practice report was given an opportunity to act as a consecutive interpreter for the seminar and was encouraged to learn more about public administration and copper mining ahead of time. With a topic on public administration, the seminar provides a very good opportunity for the author to practice interpreting skills.Public administration is frequently talked about in our daily life, while copper mining is a subject about which most of us know little and the author was not familiar with this topic, either. Therefore, the author of this practice report,in the hope to successfully accomplish this interpreting task, has dedicated a great amount of time to pre-interpretation preparations. And,based on the Effort Models which was proposed by Daniel Gile, this practice report reviews the author's efforts in this regard, performs detailed case analyses, and then reaches the conclusion what kind of role pre-interpreting preparations played and how short-term preparations help the author make his interpreting accurate, complete, and logic, thus improving the overall performance of his interpreting.
