A Study Of Chinese Loanwords In China English Lexis From The Perspective Of Eco-linguistics

Nowadays,countries around the world are learning Chinese,understanding China,and increasing the demand for communication with China.Due to the differences between Chinese and Western languages,cultures and ways of thinking,China English lexis has become a unique linguistic phenomenon.Eco-linguistics is an emerging branch of linguistics formed by the combination of ecology and linguistics.It mainly studies the interaction between language and the language environment in which it is located.Therefore,Eco-linguistics can provide a new perspective for the study of China English lexis.Based on the corpus collected from China Daily,this thesis explores the formation of Chinese loanwords in China English lexis.The main research object is the formation of loan blends and the formation of loanshift.With the help of Haugen's theory of Ecology of Language,the following two problems are specifically addressed:(1)How are Chinese loanwords in China English lexis formed? What are the rules governing the formation of Chinese loanwords in China English(2)What is the effect of ecological environments of language on the formation of Chinese loanwords in China English lexis?This thesis hopes that by solving the above two problems,some rules of word formation will be drew in order to make the formation of China English lexis more reasonable.At the same time,some inspirations for the translation and teaching of China English lexis will be found,which will provide a theoretical reference for English users and English teachers to improve their knowledge of China English lexis,thereby improving the English expression ability and communication ability of the local culture,and also improving the creativity and communication power of the local culture.Based on the theory of Eco-linguistics,the thesis mainly uses the method of qualitative research to combine the Haugen's theory of Ecology of Language with the examples from China Daily.Through literature review,corpus collection and analysis,this thesis explores the influence of language ecological environment on the formation of loan blends,the formation of loan translations and semantic conversion in China English lexis,from the three dimensions of Ecology of Language---the symbolic ecology environment of language,the sociocultural ecology environment of language and the cognitive ecology environment of language.The thesis found that the emergence and existence of China English lexis conforms to the basic laws of ecology,so it is reasonable to use the theory of Eco-linguistics to guide the study of China English lexis.Secondly,because of the interaction and mutual influence between language and language environment,Chinese loanwords in China English lexis need to take some specific formations to adapt to the local language environment.And these formations will be influenced by language factors and extra-linguistic factors,such as sociocultural factors and cognitive factors.In general,the study of the formation of China English lexis from the perspective of Eco-linguistics can contribute to make the formation of China English lexis more reasonable and the development prospects of China English lexis will be brighter.There is certain theoretical and practical significance to study the formation of Chinese loanwords in China English lexis.From the perspective of Eco-linguistics,this thesis hopes to make contribution to further improve the research methods of China English lexis,and provide inspiration for improving the expressive power of China English lexis and strengthening the spread of Chinese culture.
