The English-chinese Translation Of People And Nature: An Introduction To Human Ecological Relations(Chapter 7-8) And The Translation Report

This is an E-C translation report on a text about the relationship between human and ecological environment.The source text is the seventh and the eighth chapters of People and Nature: An Introduction to Human Ecological Relations.The translator applies Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory in the writing of of the translation report as its theoretical perspective.The communicative translation theory attempts to produce on its readers an effect as close as possible to that obtained on the readers of the original.According to different language functions,Newmark classifies three types of text such as expressive,informative,and vocative texts.Newmark believes that translators should choose different translation theories when translating different texts so he comes up with semantic translation and communicative translation.The source text is of ecological text,and the words are formal,the use of third-person is common and it contains many truths.In the process of translation,on the one hand,the translator should be faithful to the content of the source text and consider the flexibility and readability of the target text.On the other hand,the cultural background of the foreign readers should be taken into account,and the ecological connotation of the text should be properly conveyed through the expansion method.The translator analyzes the translation difficulties of polysemy,noun phrases and transference of sentence structure from the lexical level,syntactical level and the textual level.By disrupting the syntactic structure of the source text,the translation can be understood by the target readers.Therefore,the translator uses strategies such as calque,synonymy and expansion.Adopting communicative translation method can effectively help translators deal with texts of content,such as texts about the relationship between human and ecological environment.
