With the proposition of national strategy of “21st-Century Maritime Silk Road”,China is becoming a power in this field. Thus the translation of maritime documents is of vital importance. As an ESP,(English for Specific Purpose),maritime English has been much discussed by scholars in translation studies.Guided by Peter Newmark's communicative translation theory, the author aims at analyzing the difficulties in the author's E-C translation of Shipping Report of ASEAN Countries and some solutions were put forward.Maritime English has many phrases and complex sentences. In order to analyze the translation of maritime English documents intensively, the author summarizes two major difficulties encountered in the translation process: the translation of noun structures and complex sentence. The noun structures include noun+prepositional phrases and noun appositives, and the complex sentences include sentences with subordinate clauses and sentences with compound clauses.Guided by the communicative translation theory, the author puts forward word formation and amplification to resolve difficulties in translating noun structures, and division of sentence and adjustments of clauses' order to resolve difficulties in translating complex sentences. The author lists a number of examples to further prove their feasibility. The author analyzes the translation of maritime English documents under the guidance of communicative translation theory to enrich the development of research in the translation of maritime English documents and make contributions to the future research in this field.
