A Practice Report On Tourism Escort Interpreting Of The Emperor Qinshihuang's Terracotta Army Museum

This paper is a practice report on tourism escort interpreting of the Emperor Qinshihuang's Terracotta Army Museum.This task is to escort an American couple to visit the Emperor Qinshihuang's Terracotta Army Museum and to interpret the Chinese tour guide's utterance for them.According to Lawrence Venuti's theory of domestication and foreignization,this paper mainly analyzes typical phrases and sentences chosen from the transcription for the task recording.Based on the theory of domestication and foreignization,such coping tactics adopted by the interpreter in the process include paraphrase,simplification,amplification and conversion.Some difficulties the interpreter encounters are analyzed from five aspects,including four-character phrases,proper names,complex sentences,cultural disparities and oversized content.Based on the case analysis for coping tactics and difficulties in the process,suggestions for future tourism escort interpreting are proposed in the end of this report.This paper shows that in the process of interpreting,choice of language style,theoretical basis and professional knowledge in the pre-task preparation are particularly significant,since they can greatly ensure the appropriateness and improve the accuracy of interpreting.What's more,domestication is more suitable for tourist-oriented tourism escort interpreting.
