With the development of the economy and society, the quality of human being’s life has been improved materially and psychologically, as a result, tourism has been one of the most important amusement activities. However, there emerges a huge obstacle of cultural misunderstanding caused by differences in terms of history, religious belief, social custom and thought, which brings difficulties for interpreters. Because of the rich historical and cultural background in museum introduction, museum interpretation faces huge challenges. Therefore, interpreters should understand the culture thoroughly and master the translation techniques flexibly to solve all difficulties in order to play a good role as a communication bridge.This report includes six parts. The first part gives a brief introduction to the characteristics and developing tendency of museum interpretation as well as the significance of this report. In Chapter One, the background of this project, responsibilities of the interpreter and preparations are described. In Chapter Two, cultural barriers in museum interpretation process are classified into four aspects: historical differences, social custom differences, religious belief differences and value differences. This part summarizes the real cases of cultural differences to demonstrate the huge influence of the cultural differences. Chapter Three puts forward the interpreting strategies coping with cultural differences. The guiding theories that can cope with the cultural differences are domestication and foreignization. Considering the characteristics of museum interpretation, three strategies are proposed:addition, omission and replacement. In Chapter Four, feedbacks of the internship unit and self-assessment of the interpreter are recorded. The last part is conclusion about the process of this project and some practical inspirations for the future work.
